CD & DVD Duplication and Replication

Which do you require Replication or Duplication? Whether you have your discs replicated or duplicated the end product will operate the same, the only difference being the way it is manufactured. Before you decide on which route you want to take you need to ask yourself some questions. 1.What is the quantity you need to produce? 2.What time scale do you have? 3.What is your budget? 4.Does the aesthetic appearance matter? Replication tends to be more economical on runs over a 1000 discs, but the downside is that it normally takes 10 to 12 working days to be produced. This is the same production method used when you buy a CD or a DVD from the shops. The 2 print methods used in this production are Litho print and screen print. Litho print is best used on discs printed in full colour whereas screen print is used where spot or pantone colours are used. Duplication tends to be more economical on runs below 1000 and the lead times are a lot shorter, typically within a week. However if you need a larger quantity produced in a shorter lead-time this is the method to use. There are number of ways your CDs and DVDs can be printed so they look the same as a replicated disc. We can either litho screen print or ink jet your disc depending on the run length the nature of the image and your preference. The only aesthetic difference to a duplicated disc is on the recordable surface there is a colour difference due to the dye that is used to record the disc. With CD-R you can use diamond discs which have a silver dye and are almost impossible to distinguish from a replicated disc unless you know what you are looking for.
